Goofer Dust has long been used in Hoodoo to cause harm (often physical) to the "target" it is believed to have caused swelling of the legs, blindness and other physical ailments - yes, even death. (depending on the intent, practitioner and use etc.)
Traditional recipes often call for graveyard dirt, snakeskin, ash, sulphur, salt, powdered insect remains, herbs, spices, anvil dust and other ingredients.

Goofer Dust is also sometimes used in love spells of a coercive nature, though the results can often lead to unwanted consequences (as with all targeted spells and rituals). It is also used in other forms of controlling and targeted spells.
